Most of us girls from Los Angeles or New York are familiar with the “ballet meets fitness” craze. I have several girlfriends who swear by this exercise method and have become religious bar method advocates along with Madonna, Drew Barrymore and Demi Moore.
Over the past few months I have received several emails asking me when ballet fitness was going to make it to London. Now, I can happily report that “Barrecore” has arrived! And, even better news, it’s on Kings Road.
Barrecore opened in Chelsea in mid-November and it’s not just a workout. The programme promises to transform your body and make you both stronger and leaner using dance-based resistance training. Utilizing a ballet barre for support, and your body weight as resistance, the class has you perform high repetitions of small isometric movements.
The new Chelsea studio offers five classes per day. The class lasts for 60 minutes and targets all of your major muscle groups. It also helps improve your posture and alignment! It’s so much more than a regular workout. And fun too!
If you’re looking for a more one-to-one experience try the private training or nutritional counseling. The classes take place in a private studio and utilize a Garuda, an apparatus frequently used in Pilates, allowing the client to perform thousands of different strengthening movements.
The Barrecore method was created by trainer Nikki Rein, who has recently relocated to London from Los Angeles. She has worked with some of the biggest celebrity trainers in the business including Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer, Tracy Anderson. Nikki’s co-founder Andrew DeBellis studied the barre method in New York and when she found there was an absence of these classes in London, decided to open BarreCore!
Barrecore is located at 77 Kings Road, SW3 4NX. For more information call 020 7349 7500 or visit their website www.barrecore.co.uk.
